Β π Driven by a profound commitment to improving global health outcomes, I embarked on a rigorous academic journey that traversed continents and disciplines. Beginning with a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Nutrition from Seoul National University in South Korea, I laid the foundation for my career in nutritional sciences. This was followed by a Master’s degree with a concentration in Food Microbiology, further deepening my understanding of food science and its implications for human health. However, my passion for addressing pressing public health challenges led me to pursue a Ph.D. in International Health, specializing in Human Nutrition, at the renowned Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, USA.
My doctoral research focused on evaluating the effectiveness of a Community-Based Participatory Nutrition Promotion Program aimed at improving child nutritional status in rural Ethiopia, underscoring my dedication to community-based interventions and evidence-based practice. Under the guidance of Dr. Parul Christian, I conducted a cluster randomized trial, contributing valuable insights to the field of nutrition and public health. π¬ With a rich tapestry of experience spanning research, academia, and community engagement, my journey as a nutrition scientist at Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health is a testament to my unwavering commitment to improving global health outcomes. Commencing as an Assistant Scientist in the Human Nutrition Program in May 2017, I contributed to cutting-edge research initiatives aimed at addressing complex nutritional challenges. My role evolved over time, culminating in my current position as an Associate Scientist, where I continue to leverage my expertise to advance the field of nutrition science.
Beyond my affiliation with Johns Hopkins, I have also maintained fruitful collaborations with Seoul National University, serving as an Adjunct Associate Professor since November 2022. This role allows me to bridge international boundaries, fostering interdisciplinary research and knowledge exchange in the field of food and nutrition science. Previously, I held positions as an Adjunct Assistant Professor and Global Visiting Fellow at the same institution, further solidifying my commitment to academic excellence and global collaboration.
Prior to my tenure at Johns Hopkins and Seoul National University, I dedicated over seven years to community-based nutrition initiatives as a Program Officer at Wholistic Interest Through Health (WITH), a South Korea-based NGO. Here, I spearheaded various nutrition education programs across rural and urban communities in Cambodia and China, designed household nutrition surveys, and developed training manuals for NGO workers, illustrating my passion for community empowerment and capacity-building.
